Thunderhill, May 11-12, 2002
The event at Thunderhill on May 11/12 was fantastic. Great weather, great food, great racing. Both days were in the 70's and 80's. It doesn't get any better than this. Friday night we were all treated to a BBQ of about 20 lbs of freshly caught Swordfish from Van Zannis. This went over so well, we are going to make a tradition of it. Friday nights will feature a BBQ provided by Van and Sunrise Mortgage - awesome, Thanks VAN!
Friday practice was great for folks trying to re-acquaint themselves w/ the track. Jeff S. blew up his trans and Rob King from SCARGO and Jay Jarvis from Rennwerks both pitched in to drop the motor and rebuilt the trans and reinstalled it in under 3hrs just in time for the BBQ. The race on sat was heated in the Toyo class. Ben McGraw and Rich Walton put on quite a show in the Toyo class. Those 2 were side by side through turn 2, 3, and 4 - talk about close racing. The "Toyo 911 Challenge" class is the place to be if you want close, competitive racing that really shows what kind of a driver you are. The cars are really closely matched with only a limited number of modifications allowed to keep them all the same. They run on Toyo Tires (one of our key sponsors) and are amazingly quick -times for those cars at TH were in the 2:06-2:07 range.Van Zannis took the 1st place trophy home both days and it was well deserved. Mike Mitchell put in quite an effort on Sunday and squeaked out 3rd place after a tiny little spin in turn 14 which let Jeff Stevenson take home 2nd both days. Tony Irvin took some professional photos for our sponsors and if anyone wants some reprints, let me know.

The whole motley crew. Good thing the cars look good!

The start on Sat. I think that yellow/purple car might
win... What's that, a 962 next to my #934? I later found out
that it was Craig Watkins driving the DSR962 behind Mike Mitchell's red
car - it's got a 1000cc motorcycle
engine in it. He tried to stick his nose in before me at turn 1 but I
wouldn't have any of it.
Better luck next time Craig!

Van Zannis and the BEAST. Better wear ear plugs if
you're anywhere near it... He took 1st place both days.
CONGRATS VAN!

Rich Walton's Spec Car.

Ben McGraw in his immaculate Spec Car.

Don Brunell's GT2 entry. This used to be Greg Siroketes
old car but never was this fast!

Bret Boutet's GT1 entry. He tells me he really wants
that GT1 trophy....

Steve Silver's Spec Car.

Behram's new car. Built in only 4 days.

No number so I'm not sure who this is.

A heated battle.

Rich Walton's Toyo Spec Car screaming down the straight
trying to catch Ben McGraw.

Van, Van, the run-away man. 1st place both days.

Peter Smith chasing Rich Walton thru the S's

Van's Beast. He needs to lower it a bit more.
