NASA
Competition License
What type of competition license do
I need to run with PRC?
You will need a NASA competition license to run PRC events
sanctioned by NASA. If/when the PRC runs under any other
sanctioning body, the staff will ensure that the NASA
competition license is accepted by that sanctioning body.
Can I run with a PCA Club Racing or
SCCA license?
No. You must have a NASA license. If you already have a competition
license from another sanctioning body, NASA may offer
reciprocity, or allow an abbreviated licensure process--
please check directly with NASA.
Can I use a NASA license to run a
PCA Club Race?
No. You must obtain a PCA Club Racing License. This process
is described on the PCA web site http://www.pca.org/pca/clubrace/docs/forms.htm
If you have a competition license from another
sanctioning body (e.g., NASA), the PCA may allow an abbreviated
licensure process-- please check directly with PCA Club
Racing. PRC events count as experience towards your PCA
Club Race license.
What is the NASA licensing procedure?
NASA licensing procedures can be found on their web site at
www.nasaproracing.com. If you already have a competition
license from another sanctioning body (e.g., SCCA or PCA),
NASA may offer reciprocity, or allow an abbreviated licensure
process--please check directly with NASA.
For those without a competition license, you will need to go
through a NASA evaluation procedure. You may go through
this process by participating in a NASA High Performance
Driving Education (HPDE) program. Make sure you indicate
to the NASA office that you are seeking an evaluation
for a competition license to run with PRC and you would
like an evaluation in their Group 4 (open passing) run
group. Also make sure that you’ve satisfactorily provided
the NASA office all of the other required form(s), including
your physical exam results prior to the event.
Less experienced drivers should complete a longer NASA education
program beginning in Group 2 or 3 and working up to Group
4 over time.
If you are a current PCA Time Trialer, please contact Masuo
Robinson at masuo@ix.netcom.com
regarding obtaining your NASA license.
For my first event, can I be evaluated
on Saturday in HPDE Group 4 then run Sunday with PRC?
Yes. You may run with NASA Group 4 on a Saturday and include
your evaluation during one of the sessions. Provided
that NASA has agreed that all of your paperwork is in
order and presuming your evaluation is positive you will
be allowed to run the PRC event on Sunday. On Sunday
you will be evaluated by the PRC Chief Steward, and if
all goes well you will be granted a NASA license as a
result of your participation. This procedure will be
used for those Time Trialers and others who have track
experience.
Does PRC have a separate evaluation?
Yes. Regardless of your licensing status, the PRC Chief Steward
will conduct an ongoing evaluation at all events. There
is no formal paperwork but he/she will be obtaining feedback
from NASA officials, course workers and other PRC drivers.
The PRC Chief Steward and Staff members must also agree
to allow you to run in future PRC events.
Can I use one set of Physical Exam
Forms for all of my competition licenses?
Yes. NASA, SCCA and PCA all have separate forms, but there
is overlap. At the time of this writing, they all accept
each others forms. If you are also seeking a PCA Club
Racing License, we suggest you use the PCA Club Race form
for both NASA and PCA.
How do I get my car teched?
NASA competition participants, including PRC entrants, must
have a NASA logbook. You can obtain a logbook by having
your car teched at a NASA-approved shop. See the NASA
website for details. Please note that Jerry Woods Enterprises
is a NASA-approved shop.
PRC will follow all other NASA tech procedures at each event.
You can learn about these procedures, and download forms
at the NASA web site.
